This project required a 5-meter-high retaining wall to stabilize the roadway to accommodate the subdivision directly below. Old Orchard Road in Chilliwack, B.C. had a history of sloping downward and the developer planned to dig into the slope to make room for the new houses. The city refused to allow any geo grid under the road, due to planned future utility construction, but also required the road to be stabilized. If any other wall was used, the road would have to be closed during construction but with Ankora, one lane was able to remain open. Ankora Retaining Wall System was the only retaining wall able to accomplish this due to the environmentally friendly design without geogrid, so there is no conflict with future utilities. Constructing an Ankora wall vastly reduced the excavation and significantly improved the stability of the slope.
