One of Ankora’s primary features is that it offers developers the advantage of reducing costs while maximizing square footage on their property. On most projects, Ankora eliminates the need for geogrid for walls up to 20 feet high, allowing for underground utilities to remain untouched. A traditional MSE retaining wall requires geogrid and has the potential to interfere with underground utilities.
This project stands out as one of our most distinctive designs due to its location and requirements. The developer needed a retaining wall built to support the foundation of future development. This property has a very rocky landscape, that would have required blasting if a traditional MSE wall was used. By using Ankora, our client saved 50% and gained an additional 2 acres of sellable land.
Our solution was to combine the use of the Ankora base plate and the cast-in-place graded beam. This design successfully met the requirements. With Ankora’s structure of cutting out geogrid, meant minimal blasting and the construction time of the project was reduced by 5 months. This allowed the construction of the building to start earlier.
